I would like to give you a warm welcome to the National Tsing-Hua University,and also introduce to you our ” Service Learning ”course. This course is a required course for undergraduates at Nationai Tsing Hua University (0 credit but compulsory for undergraduates). Here, We will explain more about the course with the following tables.

  • If you engage in the course less than 30 hours, you will be failed the course and you have to retake it afterwards.

Service Learning is an idea from the U. S. It is form of experiential education that focuses on both “Service” and “Learning”. We hope to encourage students to apply what they are learning at school to provide volunteer services to others. We hope through service-learning programs, we can help students develop their skills and social awareness and cultivate a sense of responsibility and develop social awareness towards those in need.

  • If you engage in the course less than 30 hours, you will be failed the course and you have to retake it afterwards.

The Service-Learning program at National Tsing Hua University has been operating and promoting for more than 6 years with the efforts of the Division of Student Activities and Tsing Hua College. Service-Learning courses emphasize the importance of both “serving” and “learning”. Through “learning by doing”, students will learn what the true value of service is, obtain their personal satisfaction and increase their confidence, which has a positive influence not only on themselves, but also people around them.
Students who select this course will need to be trained for 10 to 14 hours. After training, students engage in planned service activities for 16 to 20 hours. In total, students have to spend at least 30 hours in this course.
The Service Learning course can be classified into seven categories including academic tutoring, social caring, volunteer service, social education, campus service, Advanced Topic, and Others.
If you would like to select the course, you have to log in the Academic Information Systems. The course code of Service-Learning courses is ‘ZY’. Course selection occurs from August 18 to August 24 for freshmen.

There will be approximately 38 courses. Please go on the website of the Division of Curriculum’s Course Information Page . Please select "2017 Fall semester" and choose “Service-Learning” program (with the Course Code "ZY"). For the latest information, please check the announcements posted on the Division of Curriculum’s course selection system.
